Scientists at the University of Nottingham have successfully levitated some of the heaviest elements, including platinum and lead, as well as diamond. They used liquid oxygen to increase the buoyancy created by specially designed superconducting magnets. Objects with a density 15 times greater than osmium, the densest known material, could be levitated using this technique.
