A data stream of around 600 megabytes per second has been successfully transmitted for a period of ten uninterrupted days at the CERN particle physics lab in Geneva; the data was continually sent to seven separate institutions in Europe and the US. This was a very important test for the LHC being built at CERN; it will be the most data-intensive physics instrument that has ever been seen on Earth, generating 1500 megabytes of information every second for a decade or more.
